Stalosan F

Stalosan® F broad spectrum bedding conditioner is your answer to good hygiene in rearing and animal housing situations.

Made to bind moisture and ammonia, Stalosan F helps control bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, fly larvae, ammonia and moisture in animal bedding.

It’s unique because it is non-toxic and will remain active for several days as a drying agent. It can be applied to most animal housing, covering cattle/calves, pigs, goats, sheep/lambs, poultry, horses, dogs and even zoo animals.

Stalosan F can be used to treat existing problems, however real cost benefit comes from using it as a preventative.

Reduce moisture and ammonia in the environment

Use Stalosan F to improve control of the following:

Bacteria

  • Clostridium
  • E. Coli
  • Pasturella
  • Pseudomonas
  • Salmonella
  • Staphylococcus
  • Streptococcus
  • No bacterial resistance

Viruses

  • Rotavirus
  • No viral resistance

Fungi

  • 100% effective against all types

Parasites

  • Coccidiosis
  • Cryptosporidium
  • Fly larvae
  • Roundworms

The importance of good biosecurity in animal housing.

Biosecurity means taking steps to ensure good hygiene practices are in place, so that the risk of a disease occurring or spreading is minimised.

Good biosecurity is necessary always, not just during a disease outbreak. Taking the right measures can help protect your stock, the industry and the community.

It means reducing the chances of infectious agents coming into contact with stock, thus protecting them from pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites.

Key elements every biosecurity protocol needs to contain are effective hygiene and disinfection agents.

How to apply Stalosan F

  • Scatter by hand
  • Use buckets with fine holes drilled in the base
  • Apply with the Stalosan Puffer or a leaf blower.

Blowing Stalosan F helps to ensure optimal spread of the powder and can be more economical as there is a tendency to overdose when scattering Stalosan F powder*.

Application rate

Apply 50g of Stalosan F per square metre, once weekly.

In general, we recommend that Stalosan F is applied at 50 g/m2 once a day for the first three days.

Thereafter, Stalosan F should be used once a week at 50 g/m2.

For optimal effect, we recommend that Stalosan F is spread as evenly as possible over the area which animals have access to. Spread directly over the bedding, especially along the edges where wet-and dampness occurs.

In case of high bacterial load, increased moisture or high stocking densities:

Increase application to 2-3 times per week.

* Because Stalosan F is so absorbent and maintains efficacy for several days, all that is required (in most situations) is a very light sprinkling of the pink powder.

What's in Stalosan F and how does it work?

Stalosan F has no “active” ingredient. It comprises the following:

  • 3 forms of very pure phosphate
  • A specialist structural clay
  • Selected iron and copper salts
  • Essential oil

This combination of ingredients is designed to target the root causes of poor hygiene in animal housing, rather than just treating symptoms.

How Stalosan F works in animal housing

Stalosan F acts as a powerful adsorbent, meaning it binds to moisture, ammonia, and organic matter in bedding. By doing this, it creates a drier, more stable environment where harmful microbes struggle to survive.

* Binds moisture to keep bedding dry and comfortable

* Captures ammonia, reducing harmful gas levels and improving air quality

* Stabilises pH, creating conditions (below pH 4) that pathogens do not tolerate

* Remains active for several days, even in soiled bedding

Unlike disinfectants, it does not attack cells directly. Instead, it works continuously in the background to combat environmental pH and moisture.

How Stalosan F controls bacteria, parasites, and flies

The mineral structure of Stalosan F plays a key role in breaking disease cycles:

* Copper and mineral salts disrupt pathogen metabolism, slowing their growth

* Fine particles bind to bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, stopping them from multiplying

* Microscopic particles can penetrate larvae and parasites, ending their life cycle

* Acid buffering further suppresses harmful organisms

Why this matters on farm

By drying bedding and controlling ammonia, Stalosan F reduces the conditions that allow disease to spread. This supports:

  • Healthier animals
  • Lower infection pressure
  • Improved air quality for both stock and staff
  • More consistent hygiene
